Forward Thinking

I’m always trying to balance living in the moment with being intentional about my future. So, while I’m enjoying these final few days of being this version of me and a family of three, I’m also finding pockets of time to look ahead and visualise who I want to be and how I want my life to look. 

It’s a tactic I’ve used over the years to help me feel more ready and like I belong when I step into my next level. While it’s not always as structured as this, I usually find myself answering the following six questions: 

  1. How do I want to feel? 
  2. What are my core values? 
  3. How do I want to be perceived? 
  4. What does a typical day in my new life look like? 
  5. What do I do each week that’s exclusively for me? 
  6. How do I stay accountable? 

The actual answers and way of answering can differ each time. For example, sometimes I might find it cathartic to write everything down in a huge journal entry. Other times, I’ll create a Pinterest board of people whose qualities I hope to embody. It could also be a collection of motivational quotes that I can come back to when I start to deviate from my path or a structured Excel document with time blocks to help stay accountable. 

The point is, there’s no hard and fast way of doing this. It’s not even one rule for each person; just see how you feel at the time and go with it!
